Did I Change?

It's true that I identified myself as the primary consumer of this bespoke design process and I made a real effort to get as much from this learning opportunity as possible. I discovered a great deal about myself, about my territory of research and about the potential of design and what it means to be a designer. The project has functioned as a sort of personal and bespoke “desensitization process”; a rite of passage. I am, inextricably, an outcome, or product of this work.

So... did I change? Yes. Time has passed and I take more risks now. I am still not an habitual risk taker, but I no longer evade risks either. I have found a balance that suits me very well.

Where Next?

Enough introspection! What do you think? I want to provoke a discourse on the application and relevance of experience value on an interpersonal level: what are the implications of an Experience Culture?, a society geared not towards the accumulation of material wealth, but the direct pursuit of experiential wealth; memories over matter? - Where do you want to focus your energy? What is the potential of future service and experiential design? Is a shift of focus from designed objects to less tangible journeys and happenings achievable, desirable, inevitable or (for lack of a better word) "progressive"?

Design is not a monologue. Post your thought's toward Experience Value on my blog, and join in the conversation. Or drop me an email.
